How to Make Homemade Canned Tomatoes

ντοματα κονσερβα σπιτικη

Homemade canned tomatoes are a great way to preserve the taste of summer all year round, without preservatives and with full control over the ingredients. Once you’ve made your tomato sauce, there’s a simple method to store it in jars for long-term use. All you need are clean, sterilized jars.

  1. Fill the jars to the top with tomato sauce.
  2. Seal the lids tightly and place the jars upside down in a large pot.
  3. Lay a towel on the bottom of the pot first.
  4. Fill the pot with tap water.
  5. Bring the water to a gentle boil over low heat and simmer the jars for 20 minutes.
  6. After boiling, let the jars cool completely in the water.
  7. Store them in the pantry for up to one year.
  8. Once opened, cover any leftover sauce in the jar with a thin layer of olive oil and refrigerate.
  9. An opened jar of canned tomatoes keeps for up to one week in the fridge.
